Swag Out!
Recently I have been thinking a lot about my beauty posts and the type of content I want to upload. As someone who wants to do tutorials, reviews, hauls and DIY videos for both this blog and my YouTube page, it really got me thinking about the word beauty.
Every day we are bombarded by the media with what they believe beauty to be. Aids, magazines, songs and celebrities reinforce this preconceived idea of what beauty is and what it should be. And if we don’t look that way, then we can buy this product or that product to help us achieve this goal. A lot of people take pride in the notion that everyone values individuality but if you take a closer look, far too often most of us value one specific type of individual.
And this topic can go into a wide array of discussions but for the sake of this post in particular I will link it to one: make-up.
I love make-up and it’s something that I always have enjoyed. Now that’s not to say that I haven’t struggled with it. When I first got into make-up I thought it was the most amazing invention. As a young teenage girl who was self conscious of her awkward 13 year old self, I thought makeup was the perfect mask to hide my so called “imperfections” and to ultimately make myself beautiful. There’s that word again... beauty.
Of course I went through the horrible time of acne that most teens and adults suffer from. I had braces and frizzy hair to boot.
I saw makeup as my own tool, my own advantage. I could cover up my acne, give myself fuller lashes, and some colour to my face. I could do whatever I wanted and it felt good.
Make-up is fun, you can take as much of it as you want or keep it simple. It’s all up to you. And that’s what is empowering about it. However with that being said, if you use it to constantly cover up yourself as Kid Cuddi would say, using “make-up to make up the self esteem,” then there’s nothing empowering about that. It’s just wrong.
I’ve done a lot of work with myself growing up. And I’m not done or even close to where I want to be... just yet (Key words, “just yet”). But as of now, I’m comfortable enough in my own skin, being my own kind of beauty not someone else’s.
Like I said, make-up is a good weapon to your advantage to help enhance your natural features. But there are a lot of other good tools out there too.

All the things you love, help contribute to making you learn and accept what beauty really is.
I have come to find that beauty and happiness go hand in hand. To surround yourself with all of your favourite things doesn’t mean it will result in a perfect life, but rather a happy one. It doesn’t mean that nothing bad will happen to you ever again but rather that you’ll learn how to deal with it. And when all is said and done, you’ll be okay. You’ll be happy.
“You could be one of the most beautiful girls in the world, but without substance you’re just like the rest of them.” – Unknown
Disclaimer: I know that there is more than one type of beauty out there. We all come from different places, have different features, different skin tones and different hair types. Not just ONE of these is beautiful but rather all. So all of it and all of YOU will always be incorporated into my beauty posts.
